Youth
The
senior high youth have experienced many opportunities
for fellowship under the leadership of Chuck
and Jane Rauch, Ronda Harrington,
Craig Lyon, Rue Smith, Joyce Nielsen, Stacey and Mike VanDerSloot, Nathan Deters, and Rev. Koehler. Activities have included
Bible study, hay ride and bonfire, Great Red Pumpkin Hunt, assembling
and delivering Thanksgiving food baskets, hanging of the
greens to decorate the sanctuary, Christmas caroling and
soup supper, kite flying and weiner roast at a county
park, and indoor winter olympics.
An annnual summer work
camp mission trip is experienced by many senior high youth
and sponsors. In 2002 we traveled to Higgins Lake, Michigan.
In 2003 we traveled to Glacier Presbytery Camp near
Lakeside, Montana, where we did maintenance and repair
work at the camp. 2004 took us to Masanetta
Springs near Harrisenburg, Virginia. In 2005, we
visited Springfield, Missouri,
to build wheelchair ramps. In 2006, the group travelled to Ferncliff Camp near Little Rock, Arkansas, to assemble PDA (Presbyterian Disaster Assistance) care packages as well as perform maintenance around the camp. Most recently, in 2007 the youth ventured to Tempe, Arizona, to assist around the grounds of Cook School for Christian Leadership.
The eighth grade confirmation
class serves a meal to the homeless at the Gospel Mission
in Sioux City and also experiences other off-site events
during their time as comfirmands. They also present a
live Nativity scene for "Miracle on Lake Avenue"
during the Advent season.
